London at Lundi and John's August 2014

First night - July 23rd

We had a one night stopover with Lundi and John on our way from NZ to Brussels. The weather was beautiful so we walked from Camden to Soho with Lundi and met up with John and Jamie Crawley at this bar below before going out for dinner.

Second stay with Lundi and John - August 13 to 20

We arrived back in London via Gatwick Airport and were impressed by these two photo mosaics of Betty Windsor:

Thousands of photographs were given by people to be used to create the mosaics.

London welcomed us with a beautiful sunny evening. These pics taken from on the train from Gatwick to Kings Cross.

We arrived at Lindi and John's in time for a BBQ with some of Sarah's friends. She' now 18 and is just about to go to Edinburgh University. When I last saw her she was three. She's in this photo at the front, on the left hand side.

We did lots of fun touristy things...
  • Visited St Paul's Cathedral

  • Took a selfie at Piccadilly Circus
  • Went to the National Science Museum where Jeff got to see lots of planes

  • Saw a Matisse exhibition at the Tate Gallery (but couldn't take photos). Also visited a couple of other rooms and I found these Picasso interesting.

  • Cycled out to Greenwhich and visited the National Maritime Museum, Observatory and park (and took another selfie)
Jeff had just read a book about longitude so was excited to be able to go and see the Harrison time keepers - H1,2,3 AND 4! This made him a happy boy.

  • Had some bubbles, strawberries and Haagen Dazs by the Serpentine in Hyde Park

The clouds put on a good show for us but it didn't rain.

  • Went to two BBC Proms Concerts at the Royal Albert Hall

  • Went to a lunchtime chamber concert at Callogen Hall

  • Went to the theatre and saw Three plays (Streetcar Named Desire, The Curious Interest of the Dog and Let the Right One In) and a musical (Once)

  • Went on a cycle tour with Lundi and John to The Tower of London to see the planting of 870,000 ceramic poppies (each one representing an English soldier who had died) and had brunch on the way.

  • Cycled to Greenwich Park and visited the Observatory and the National Maritime Museum. Jeff was very happy to see the timepieces H1, H2, H3 and H4 (as he'd just finished reading a book about longitude).

We had a fun time in London and there are so many more things we'd like to do and see next time we are back.
